After all, if God forgave the massive offense of our sin against Him, how could we not forgive the sin of others--which, though it my be severe, pales in comparison with our own guilt before a holy and righteous God?"

This month has been full of excitement already... Here are some hi-lights:

Feb 1st- My husband came home with a handful of surprises to celebrate our 'dating/engagement' anniversary. After our kids were tucked into bed we were sitting on the couch talking over our day when he sweetly asked what color I think of when I picture the month of February. "hmmm, white because of the snow outside our window or red for valentines day" was my reply. He then said, "I think of blue." "Blue?" I said. He pulled out a card with a blue envelope and said, "yes blue, because I would be oh so blue without you in my life, Happy February 1st." (laugh and sigh). So cute. The card was sweet enough, but it didn't end there. He then proceeded to pull out 3 more gifts one at a time which continued the 'blue-theme'. A frozen yogart gift card to "Blue Spoon", a boutique gift card to "JT blu" in Leavenworth, and blue wrapped silk milk chocolate candy bar. Awesome. It was so fun! And so thoughtful!

Feb 10-11th- We had our Gospel Community leaders retreat. It was a special time of team building, vision casting, and praising God for His works of grace in our lives and those in our Gospel Community Groups at GCC. I am so thankful for the church family I have and the Gospel Community group we are living life with. I've never had the need for the gospel be so pressing, or the thankfulness of the gospel be so tangible. Daily living as a sent people on mission with the gospel is the toughest way to live and yet the most rewarding way to live. All because the One who sent us, is the One who went before us, and is the One who goes with us.

Feb 12th- My mom had her Birthday and spent the day in our neck of the woods! Nani and Popii came to our house for dinner to celebrate. And yes, Niyah made some 'pupcakes' as she sweetie requests for any birthday party! It was a fun time to visit and have them visit the kids. The dinner from garlini's was a delicious favorite for mom (and us all) to enjoy too!
Today also marked the 9th month birthday for our lil' man Silas! He is such a sweet boy. He has a very tender heart and is learning the ropes of life vertically as he loves to spend most of the day standing alongside our couches and cruising from one to the other. He loves his sister, and I swear he is saying her name "Na Na Na"(for Ni Ni) the last couple days, or he could be meaning Ma-ma." Either way, it's adorable. He can raise his hands into the sky when we say "so big!", and he can clap his hands, and wave. We are working on pleases and thank you's via sign-language. So we'll see how that goes. :) He is a delight and a continual blessing to our family.

Weekend Fun in the Methow with Stennes'

Niyah was scared for daddy as he 'snowboarded' behind 4-wheeler!

After 3 weeks straight of no day off for my dear husband, we were blessed to escape for 2 nights to the Stennes homestead in the Methow. We had a great time relaxing with friends and enjoying a beautiful stay in Keith and Deb's home overlooking the river. We read, ate, slept, hot-tubed, watched movie, visited friends, played with kids, 4-wheeled in snow, sled, and relaxed! The kids loved the snow and playing with their little friends. Grandma Deb has a play kitchen in her house that was a definite favorite for Niyah to spend the afternoon in 'mommy-imagination'. Very cute. We are thankful for the time to get away and relax as a family by the graciousness of good friends to invite us to come!

Loving the unloveable

The reality is that you only love God because loved you first. He loved you before you were born and chose you for himself. His love for you secured your salvation, and because you have experienced his life-redeeming love you love him in return. But for love to continue and grow, and for you to love the unlovable, it is important that you meditate on the gospel. Get this--you only know what love really is by looking to your Savior. And we learn it from him continually, not just once. You must daily go to the cross sand see your Savior's love for the unlovable (that means you)...And when you see the Holy One's sacrificial love for you, you not only see what love looks like, but also you find strength and power to love like him.

Our sinful behavior reflects the sin in our hearts. Every sinful action and negative emotion reveals a problem in our hearts. Our struggles and temptations often trigger sin but they never cause it. The root cause is always the heart and its sinful desires... We choose how we respond to circumstances, and what determines our choices are the thinking and desires of our hearts... Sin happens when we believe lies about God instead of God's word and when we worship idols instead of worshiping God."

2 Things are happening in our hearts: As humans we are always interpreters and always worshipers.
*We think, interpret, believe, trust.
*We desire, worship, want, treasure.

The Promise I Have in Christ for 2012

2012 has begun. There is no way to know what...

sorrows
trials
adventures
successes
failures
memories

...will be told on December 31st 2012 recalling the events of the year. For some this may be terrifying, paralyzing, down right mind-numbing so you may think it's best to not think about it at all. This mindset will try to take the blows of life as they come and have wishful thinking for a better 2013. But deep down they know a new year will be just like the last; discouraging, meaningless, frustrating, and altogether hopeless.

How despairing

So why is it that I (or any Christian) do not have to despair at the start of a new year?

It's only because of Christ that I been thinking about the coming year with great anticipation- because He knows and is sovereignly reigning over the outcome. It's only because of Christ that I can be thankful for the memories to be shared- because He is a good God who meets every need of His children. It's only because of Christ that I will look back upon the days or months or possibly year of potential trials and suffering with unwavering contentment, unmeasurable peace, and unconditional joy- because Christ has carried a much greater load of pain and sorrow, even to the point of death, than I will ever have to. And therefore He is the One I confide in to draw strength from by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In Christ the fullness of joy is found.
In Christ the completeness of every want is fulfilled.
In Christ the weak are made strong.
In Christ the burdened are set free.
In Christ the weary are comforted.
In Christ the sick are made well.
In Christ we have been saved, are being saved, and will be saved on the day of His return.
In Christ our hearts are changed and will continue to be changed into greater likeness of Him who died for our sins, defeated death by rising again, and is now reigning at the right hand of the Father in Heaven.

So 2012....because of Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I gladly welcome you.

Who is a godly husband and wife in your life that you respect and can seek godly counsel from as you wait and enter into a relationship?

Is the man leading the woman to love Jesus more by reading Scripture together, praying together, going to church together? If not…. The relationship is not honoring to the Lord and you should get out of it immediately.

How will you help your children love Jesus this year?
How will you instill godly character into their lives?
How will you keep your own soul fresh amidst the strains of motherhood?
How will you model restraint in your schedule?
How will you give them a love for reading good books?
How will you give them a hunger to learn?
How will you give them a vision for how to spend their life for the glory of God?
How will you whet their appetite for gospel ministry?
How will you give them a desire to live outside of themselves and serve other people?

Husbands…

How will you nurture your wife in the gospel?
How will you apply the gospel to her insecurities (do you even know what they are?).
How will you build gospel, hope-in-God confidence into your wife?

Here are a few pictures from our last 3 weeks of Christmas celebrations with family. We had a full three weeks which included visits from great grandma Kay, auntie's, cousins, grandparents, ggma and ggpa, nana and papa and many more. We enjoyed a Christmas morning here at home with our family of four before leaving for Edmonds to ggma and ggpa's home. More pictures of our travels will have to come later since I don't have our family camera at home with me right now. So these are just some to give a quick update. I look forward to bringing in 2012 with these two munchkins of mine! :)

Here are some other crafts Niyah and I worked on this week. I have found a new love for old windows, vinyl, and knobs. I plan to use the "Welcome Home" window as a coat hanger in our entryway. The other "Simple blessings" window will be a fun room decor piece. I'm on the look out for some old keys to hang from one of the side knobs as well. Such fun...

Christmas Craft Day

Today was a Christmas craft day for Niyah and I. Our first craft were these beautiful PINK SPARKLE ornaments. Who needs the traditional "red and green" when pink's an option is Niyah's motto. These will be her first 'craft-gifts' to family this year and she was very proud. The sparkles made an exciting mess and will be with us for some time I think. It was worth it though. Niyah even managed to get some sparkle 'bling' on her cheek. Just about in her eye, but thankful we steered clear any optical damage. Merry Christmas to all. And some of you fortunate folks will get to enjoy one of these handmade ornaments made specially for you by the 2 yr old Niyah Joy. :)

Daddy Date- The thrill of her first skate

While I was in Seattle having a girls weekend Niyah got to go on a daddy-date to the ice skating rink. She was looking forward to this outing all week! She got out on the ice after some moments of watching and thinking about it~ But once those feet hit the ice she LOVED it. 45 minutes of skating was just the start of the FUN. She is ready to go again to show me how she can "do it all by self mommy!" Maybe she'll take after her momma and grandma Kay and be an 'ice-skater' at heart. Her dance moves at home often include an outstretched leg followed by an exclamation, "look mom, I am skating!"

Girls Weekend in Seattle

Last weekend I was able to enjoy a night in Seattle with my mom and sisters. It was so much FUN! My dear mother-in-law watched my kids until Carey got home from work on Friday so I could get over the pass early and enjoy the afternoon shopping in Snohomish. I just LOVE this little town. Such charm. My wonderful husband then took over kid care Friday night thru Saturday evening until I returned. I had a delightful time with a quiet, yes quiet(no kids!) drive over the snowy white pass, shopping in the adorably cute town of Snohomish, chatting with my sisters and mom, sipping on a hot eggnog latte (first of the season), watching an entertaining performance of Cinderella at the 5th Avenue, sharing laughs and Cheesecake Factory treats, shopping in the Christmas-lit town of Seattle for a day, enjoyed a delicious lunch and drink at Vons, and stayed in a lovely charming hotel downtown. It was memorable. I loved the time enjoying the Christmas season with my sisters and mom and will most definitely look forward to next years outing!

My Kids- Silas 6 months Niyah 2 1/2

Yes, it may be that my kids lives are blogged about, but I think that is just fine. Especially when I know Nani and Auntie Kay love to see pictures and updates about them! :) So here is the latest for my two munchins.
Silas is 6months, what!, half of a year old already! He is such a delightful addition to our family. He is crawling all over the place, smiley, sitting up on his own, smiley, about to start in on some solids (still finding the right moment when mommy's ready to tackle the extra routine), smiley, has 1 bottom tooth, smiley, likes to wrestle with his sister, smiley, full of giggles, loves to explore, and did I mention smiley~ This kid is such a happy, easy-going guy. He is a cutie pie. I think he will be a charmer for sure.
My dear 2 1/2 year old daughter is growing steadily into a little lady at each new day. She is inthrawed with her daddy. Every morning before he leaves, "Daddy- I kiss you!" Followed by a skippidy prance to his side until he bends down to receive his princess kiss for the day. Then every evening he returns its, "Daddy- wrestle me, tickle me, jump with me." Oh yes, and he is the one that cures all 'ouchies' with a kiss. Mom just doesn't due. Niyah is such a big helper with Silas too. She gets diapers, wipes, blankets, bottles, clothes, socks, shoes, or whatever else I may need for him. She is quick to lend a 2yr-old helping hand. She also loves to bake with mommy. A darling giggle and exclamation of "whoo-hoo" comes out every time she sees me pull out the Kitchen Aid mixer. The word FUN and YUMMY are both met to perfection when mom gets out the mixer. Niyah is also a wiz at her numbers up to 10 and all her letters; sounds included. She enjoys singing, and I will often hear her playing in her room with a tune in her heart and sweet hymns on her lips. Oh yes, I can't leave out how much she loves pink. Pink shoes, boots, socks, pants, shirts, jackets, hair bows, dolls, spoons, forks, plates, and even Christmas tree are her FaVoRiTe. If it has pink on it, she thinks it's just the most beautiful thing ever! Sparkles are a bonus too. Such a girl.
My kids are such a blessing. I thank the Lord often for the gift of each new day I have with them under my care.

1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands

Any woman who has turned to the Bible for an understanding of what it is to be a biblical wife has encountered this verse. Like an old familiar friend, we strive to know its meaning and go about applying modern-day relevance to this command.

It Starts with, "Likewise"

All too often, we skim over the most important piece. We jump straight to the slightly heavy-feeling task of defining wife, submission, and the subsequent implications for our lives. We do not stop to consider the likewise.

Likewise changes everything. It means similarly; in like manner. 1 Peter 2 discusses Jesus’ mission, life, and death -- so that becoming wife is even possible. Who he is and what he has done paves the way for women to be wives. Often, we look to the Proverbs 31 woman alone for our template of female godliness. We are tempted to think, “She was the wife who did it all. Let’s copy her”.

It’s All About Him, Not Her

Jesus alone is our means, our model, and our motivation for biblical wife. And yes, I do realize he wasn’t a woman. Peter is telling us ladies that as Jesus subjected himself to obedience and suffering, we must likewise place our hope and purpose into the hands of the Father to be wives at all. He exchanged our sin for his righteousness so we could offer something of his love and selflessness in our marriages.

Mine before Mrs.

We belong to Jesus. God calls us to be his daughters as the core identity of our womanhood. For some, he will call to become wife in addition, but never in competition, to that identity. Being a godly wife flows from being a committed daughter.

4 R’s for the Biblical Wife

Reason: Worship

Genesis 1:27 tells us we are, male and female, created in the image of God. Our sole reason for living is to reflect the image of our Father in worship of Him alone. John 4:23 lays out the call, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” As women and as wives, we are to pour out our lives in worship to the King.

Role: Helper

The role woman was given by God in Genesis 2:18 is helper. It is the Hebrew word ezer which God also uses for himself in Psalms, John, and Hebrews. Helper is not a second-class position. It is a high calling accepted with humility and confidence. We are not vying with our men to “arrive” someday as something other than what we were called to be -- a support, advisor, comfort, and friend to our husbands.

Response: Submission

Submission is the heart response of a godly woman who has put herself under Christ and her husband. It is an act of the will carried out joyfully and willingly because she recognizes the gift of grace she has received. Submission is the single-most precious place of safety and freedom that a woman could ever know. Deep belief and complete trust in Jesus to sustain a wife makes submission to even the most difficult man possible.

Responsibility: Respect

Ephesians 5:33 urges wives to see to it that we respect our husbands. It is a command and not a suggestion. It is our responsibility to communicate respect in our words, tone of voice, attitudes, and actions. True respect for our husbands will spring out of a hear that rejoices in the grace we as wives have received and the grace that we know our husbands need. They desire your respect; they need Jesus. The most respectful posture you can take as a wife is one of grace -- the same grace offered to you in your time of need.

In Christ Alone

We try to muster up submisson, respect, and help for our men without humbly recognizing this thing called wife is made possible by Jesus alone. A marriage license and a sparkling ring do not automatically transform a woman into a wife who honors God. The grace offered and the righteousness bestowed at the cross is what makes you a godly wife who willingly subjects herself to her husband. Dying to yourself because the Savior died for you is the call for the biblical wife. Your marriage will thrive because of life found in Christ; recognizing your daily need for a Savior and dependant upon his righteousness alone.

God's unfailing Love gives no reason to fear

Our affliction is from our sovereign God, but so is our comfort. His love is unfailing, and so we have nothing to fear. Ignorance of this causes misery, while knowledge of it brings happiness, no matter our affliction. God sovereignly governs every atom of the universe for the best advantage of Christians. We may struggle to see that now, but in eternity we will see it clearly and will praise God eternally for it. Maybe we think it's a cop-out to praise God for the blessings we have in the heavenly places—somehow it seems we're cheating and that "spiritual" blessings are "unreal," just something to hide in when life is hard going. When spiritual blessings are seen through the eye of faith, there is nothing more real.

What more could we want than every spiritual blessing in Christ? Especially when life seems so fragile and temporal. What more is there to praise God for than all he blesses us with in Christ? There is no more. Despite often leading us through the valley of the shadow of death, we praise him who works out all things for our good (Rm. 8:28). In God's Providence is our happiness.

Spiritual fruits do not develop in us as we focus on them; spiritual fruits come as we abide in Jesus (John 15:5). Spiritual “fruit” is much like physical “fruit.” When a husband and wife conceive physical “fruit” (i.e. a child), they are not thinking about the exact, scientific mechanics of making that child. They get caught up in a moment of loving intimacy with one another, and the fruit of that loving intimacy is a child. In the same way, spiritual fruits do not grow by focusing on fruit production, but by becoming intimate with the doctrines of the gospel.

Grow Your Fruit with the Gospel

Jesus said that saturating ourselves in the gospel, or “abiding” (lit., “making our home”) in it, is the way to abundant fruit. Sanctification is the daily process of pulling up the roots of our hearts from the flesh and grounding them in the soil of the gospel. Or, to change metaphors, we must send out missionaries to the unreached parts of our heart to preach the gospel and bring our heart under the subjugation of the gospel.

A Prayer of God's Righteousness

About four years ago, I wrote a prayer for our church to help to this end. We often talk about “preaching the gospel to ourselves daily,” but how can you do that? This four-part prayer confronts us with the reality of God’s gift-righteousness and love:

“In Christ, there is nothing I could do that would make you love me more, and nothing I have done that makes you love me less.”

Pray about this “gift righteousness” of the gospel (2 Cor. 5:21) and go to war against the incipient works-righteousness hardwired into our hearts.

“Your presence and approval are all I need today for everlasting joy.”

Pray about this value of God’s presence in our lives. It’s one thing to know that Jesus is your possession; it’s another for that approval to have such weightiness in our hearts that our captivity to other idols is snapped.

“As you have been to me, so I will be to others.”

Pray about and consider the extravagant generosity of God toward us. His generosity toward us leads us to radical generosity toward others.

“As I pray, I’ll measure your compassion by the cross and your power by the resurrection.”

Pray that God would help you view the world through the lens of the gospel. Seeing the compassion and power of God revealed in the gospel produces bold, audacious faith in our hearts.

Our Story in light of God's Story

We all have story. God is the Author of the one, true, greatest story. And everyone (saved or unsaved) plays a role. We, as Christians, need to be able to think about our story in light of the gospel and how Christ has redeemed us to Himself. When we take time to think about our own stories we will be reminded of the greatness of our sin and the greatness of our God who chose us while we were still sinners! The reality of the cross becomes increasingly glorious and our new identity takes a deeper root in our minds understanding. Upon the moment of salvation, we have been Justified, but do we truly live in the understanding of what this now means? And as we reflect on our story the Holy Spirit will be able to help us identify areas of unbelief that still reside in hidden corners of our hearts.

Each person’s story will lend into reasoning's of particular idols. So again, understanding our own stories, will better equip us to recognize our own idols and an opportunity to apply the gospel to those areas. Practicing this will better equip us to listen to other people’s stories and hear areas of unbelief they are having and then help apply the gospel to those particular areas.

Remember:

“ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Heb 4:15

Because of Christ we too will sympathize with each other as we recall past pain, suffering, and temptations. Together we will remind one another of the hope we have in Christ who apart from Him we have nothing, and with Him we have everything. Eph 1

Here are some questions to think through as you start to reflect upon ‘your story’. These are some key elements ‘your story’ should include as you share it.

Include:

*Influential people (positive and negative)

*Pain-Suffering

*Spiritual Growth/ Revelation

*Significant Incidents/Circumstances (moving,mission trips,schools,births,etc)

1. I know I’m a sinner because...

2. I know I’m a Christian because...

3. The Gospel is...

4. Where in your life do you see and/or experience the most brokenness (need for redemption)? What aspect of the gospel are you not believing in that particular sin?

5. Describe your hardest/darkest time. How have you experienced God’s healing/rescue since that time?

6. What idols have/do you struggle with the most? Who/what do you turn to instead of Jesus? What’s the underlying sin of those idols?

We’re always looking for:

significance

security

control

comfort

approval - worth aspects

acceptance - relational aspects

We look to idols like money, food, clothes, things, kids, spouse, house, gifts, success, abilities, etc. to satisfy those needs. What or Who should we be looking toward? What verses help to fight against these idols?

7. My life would be fulfilled if I had...

8. My life would be worthless if I lost...

9. I fear _(fill-in the blank)_ the most in my life….. Death? Disrespect? Losing possessions? Losing spouse, Losing family? Etc.

10. Read Ephesians- Does my story reflect an accurate depiction of The Story I am now a part of in Christ? A new identity, a new family, a new hope, a new Father, a new life, a new destiny!

Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God is "living and active." It pierces our hearts and discerns our thoughts and intentions. Nothing will open our eyes to our needs and enable us to correct wrong thinking as will the Word of God itself. As Jeremiah says, God's Word is "like a hammer" that can break the hardest of hearts. Any power in a sermon or good spiritual book stems from God working first and foremost through his Word. Life...and a move

So here I sit. Outside on the lawn while my two kiddos sleep. Peaceful. I've realized it's been awhile since I've given an update on the 'everyday' happenings of our little family. So now is the time to try and give a breif update of our 'Life' for the next week or two. As many of you know we've been living in the basement at my in-laws home. And let me just add, wonderful in-laws.

We are blessed.

And in the basement we share the living space with my brother and sister-in-law and their three kids (6,4,1). And let me just say, wonderful BIL and SIL.

We are blessed.

We have been living here all together for the past 2 years. And specifically with Josh and Sharon for 3 years.
One might think..."How do they do it!?" Or better yet, "Why do they do it!?" Well, the reason's why are many and variable for each family; and the reason's how are simple... God's grace and a deep love for each other. Living in community together has been a wonderful means for the Lord to teach, mold, shape, change, refine, discipline, encourage, strengthen, sharpen, mentor, and disciple us. I have learned more about myself, my husband, and my children that would have never been possible without the experiences of this past season of communal living.

I am thankful.

And now the time has come, just as the season's are changing from summer to fall, so must our community of family living. Yes, a big change is coming. A move is underway. Next week our families will part as J and S move into their new home. Honestly, the thought of it at this point is two-fold. Part of me leaps with excitement for the thought of a place to make just our own, increased moments of silence, more sleep (most likely), less messes to clean on the floor after meals or with the piles of toys after 5 kids play, less dishes in the sink, a more disciplined routine, and actually choosing when to have a play-date instead of one that never has a goodbye involved. And yet another part of me saddens with the thought of losing my amazingly-creative roommate, less late night movies on the lawn or upstairs with mom and dad, less late night talks about church-family-friends-food or whatever else Josh wants to talk about :), no loud greeting "HI AUNTIE, GUESS WHAT..." every time I walk in the door, no meal-plan sharing, no helping hand for the crumbs on the floor or dishes in the sink, no dancing partners for Niyah, no live-in playmates for my energetic daughter (who never knew the meaning of only child!), and not to mention no extra stash of 'double-good-choc cookies in the freezer'. Brutal.

Life has been good together, very good. God's grace is evident as we part 'homes' still loving each other and able to honestly say, "I have loved these years and will cherish these memories greatly." And now it's time to continue to go forth living on mission with the purpose of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ for the glory of God and for the good of all people.

How do we fight the external enemies of Satan, worldly temptations, and the internal enemy within; the flesh?

This is how: We need to know who we are in Christ, believe what we know to be true from Scriptures, and obey. Living in the reality of the gospel. Then do that over again, and over again, and over again. For me it is multiple times a day! Romans 6:11; Paul exhorts us to "consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." We have to mentally review our doctrine and live obediently in light of it. Remember, we do not do our part alone--the Spirit enables us.

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being." Ephesians 3:16

"... We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. Six Ways of Minimizing Sin

1.Defending: When confronted, my tendency is to explain things away, talk about my successes, or justify my decisions. As a result, people are hesitant to approach me and I rarely have conversations about difficult things in my life.

2. Faking: I strive to keep up appearances and maintain a respectable image. As a result, not many people know the real me.

3. Hiding: I conceal as much as I can about my life, especially the "bad stuff." Hiding is different than faking because hiding is more about shame. I don't think people will accept or love the real me.

4. Exaggerating: I tend to think, and talk, more highly of myself than I ought. I make things, good and bad, out to be much bigger than they truly are (usually to get attention). As a result, things often get more attention than they deserve and have a way to making me stressed or anxious.

5. Blaming: I am quick to blame others for sin or circumstances. I have a difficult time 'owning' my contributions to sin or conflict. There is an element of pride that assumes it's not my fault and/or element of fear of rejection if it is my fault.

6. Downplaying: I tend to give little weight to sin or circumstances in my life, as if they are 'normal' or 'not that bad.' As a result, things often don't get the attention they deserve. They have a way of mounting to the point of being overwhelming.

The area I most often minimize sin is in blaming. I can be quick to excuse my sin by finding the fault in the other person involved. Or maybe no one person is specifically involved, but rather a thing, or circumstance. In any case, it is sin. I am learning how to identify my sin, compare it to Christ atoning work on the cross, and confess it. The gospel becomes evermore AmAzInG as the reality of my sin is exposed and the holiness of God is revealed. The wonder of it all is that as the understanding of my sin and of God's holiness grows, my love and need for Jesus grows as well. Christ's sacrifice and His gracious work on my behalf become increasingly powerful and ultimately results in a heart that's changed. How about you... in what ways do you minimize sin? Let's together pray for the Holy Spirit to convict, grant us humbleness, and a repentant heart. Christ will be all the more glorious and beautiful.

Last week we went camping, in a cabin, at Flowing Lake. The kids had a fun time with Popii, Nani, Uncle Ty, Auntie Annie, cousin Z, and Auntie Kay. We enjoyed the sunny days with a hike, swimming, and some fishing/crabbing! We celebrated with Auntie Kay on her 22nd birthday too. Then on the return trip home Carey and I were able to go out (thanks nani and popii) for our first date night without any kids since Si has been born. And we got to see Les Miserables to boot! Fun night!

Misc. Household Tips... Go mama's Go!

When you dust, start at the top and work down.
Take all your cleaning tools, avoid unnecessary trips back and forth.

Clean as you go! It takes a lot less time to remove new dirt than old.

Leave baking soda on carpeting over night will absorb musty odors

Make a checklist of chores to get organized first.

Wash walls from the bottom up, to avoid streaking.

Use old socks as mitts for cleaning difficult wood work.

Wash small knickknacks instead of dusting.

To removing heel marks , take pencil eraser and rub them off.

Don't mix cleaning products. Ammonia and bleach are toxic.

Remember common cleaners such as windex and comet meet this don't do rule.

Allowing cleaners to set for several minutes will ease the cleaning job.

Interior Walls:

Wall cleaner, mix 1/2 c. ammonia, 1/4 c. white vinegar, and 1/4 c. baking soda to 1 gal. warm water.

For cleaning textured walls use nylon socks instead of a sponge or cloth to avoid leaving material chunks behind.

To dust wall paper, tie a dustcloth over your broom and work from the top down.

To remove pencil marks & other non-greasy spots from non-washable papers, use an art-gum eraser .

To remove greasy spots or crayon, apply a paste of cleaning fluid and fuller's earth and cornstarch. Let the wall dry and brush off residue. Repeat the treatment until the spot is gone.

Exterior Walls:

Use a water hose to spray the outside of your house. This will remove siding cobwebsand dirt.

Textured siding ? Attach a car-washing brush to the hose to remove dirt.

Windows

Make your own spray cleaner. Fill a spray bottle with 3 tablespoons ammonia, 1 tablespoon vinegar & the remainder with water.

Dust blinds by wrapping a cloth around a ruler. Spray cloth with a dusting spray and run the flat end across each blind.

Shine windows using old newspaper.

Clean windows on an average temperature, preferably overcast day to avoid streaks.

Dry windows outside in one direction then inside in the other direction. If you see a streak, you will know which side is the ofender.

To clean window sills, pour diluted rubbing alcohol on a cloth and rub the entire surface.Then dust off the sill with a clean cloth.

Bathroom:

Rubbing alcohol can remove the dull haze from mirrors.

Use rubbing alcohol to remove spots from bathroom fixtures.

Glass shower doors will sparkle if cleaned with white vinegar.

To clean the shower, use a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup baking soda added to one gallon of warm water.

Lemon furniture oil will remove water spots on metal frames.

Rusty tile marks can be removed with kerosene.

Running the shower on hot for five minutes will steam the dirt loose.

Grout need cleaning? Wash with 2 tablespoons chlorine bleach in one quart of water. Dry thoroughly, then apply several coats of lemon oil. Let dry one hour between coats.

Dull walls will shine when washed with vinegar and water and polished with a dry cloth.

Lighter fluid will remove most stains from porcelain sinks and bathtubs.

Kitchen:

Pour club soda on counter and clean with a soft cloth, rinse with water then wipe dry.

Baking soda or club soda will clean and shine stainless steel sinks easily.

Remove stubborn water spots from a stainless sink with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Spots on stainless steel also can be removed with vinegar.

Rub stainless steel sinks with lighter fluid if rusty .

For a sparkling white porcelain sink, place paper towels across the bottom of your sink and saturate with household bleach. Let sit for 8 hour & rinse. Never use bleach in colored sinks.

Refrigerator:

An open box of baking soda will absorb odors for a month or so.

A few drops vanilla extract on a piece of cotton placed in the refrigerator will eliminate odors.

Wipe refrigerator with vinegar to prevent mildew.

Use your vacuum on the front of the coils and motor to remove dust and dirt

Appliances:

Stop yellowing of white appliances. Mix 1/2 cup bleach, 1/4 cup baking soda and 4 cups of warm water. Apply with a sponge and let set for 10 minutes. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Wax large appliances with car wax to make them shine and to remove small scratches.

Wood Floors:

Floor cleaner is a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar in 1 gallon of warm water. Damp mop with a mop squeezed nearly dry. It is safer to mist the mop with the cleaner than to apply to floor. Do a section at a time and throw an old towel on the floor and scoot back and forth with foot to dry and prevent streaks. Standing liquid from mopping, spills, and pet accidents can damage floors.

The greatest damage done to wood floors is from grit. Mats at doors are necessary to collect grit and it's important to keep these clean. Frequent dust mopping in high traffic areas to collect grit is the best prevention. This should be done based on the amount of traffic, which may require dust mopping several times a day in an active household. The brush attachment of a vacuum can be used (no beater bars). Felt and furniture protectors should be installed on furniture. Never scoot furniture on wood.

Put a piece of waxed paper under your dust mop. Dirt will stick to the mop and the wax will shine your floors.

Use a paper bag over spilled candle wax then lightly iron

Removing Stains:

Water Stains-
Rub the spot with No. 2 steel wood and rewax. For more serious water stains, lightly sand with fine sandpaper, clean the spot with No. 1 or 00 steel wool and mineral spirits or floor cleaner then refinish and wax.

Cigarette Burns-
If not severe, the burn can be removed by rubbing with steel wool moistened with soap and water.

Heel and Caster Marks-
Rub vigorously with fine steel wool and floor cleaner. Wipe dry and polish.

Ink Stains and Other Dark Spots-
Use No. 2 steel wool and floor cleaner to clean the spot and surrounding area. Thoroughly wash the affected area. If the spot remains, sand with fine sandpaper, re-wax and polish. Stubborn stains may require that you replace the affected area.

Chewing Gum and Wax Deposits-
Ice until the deposit is brittle and crumbles off. Pour floor cleaner around the stain so the fluid soaks under and loosens it.

Alcohol Spots-
Rub the spot with liquid or paste wax

Vinyl Floors:

Sweep then damp mop using a gallon of water and a dash of dish-washing detergent.

No-wax floors eventually need waxing, this will help to prevent further deterioration.

Cleaning Carpets:

To clean dry spots, loosen soil and vacuum away prior to moistening it.

When taking out stains, always use a white cloth.

Wax dropped on carpet or upholstery? Set a clean, absorbent cloth over the wax stain and hold a hot iron on it. Then remove the cloth.

Coat mildly greasy stains with aerosol shaving cream, use a hair dryer to speed dry. Then vacuum.

Sprinkle a greasy stain with baking soda, cornstarch or talcum powder. Leave on at least 8 hours, then vacuum.

Did you know that Bounce, the stuff you use in the dryer has many cleaning uses?

Eliminates static electricity from your television screen. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

Dissolves soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a used sheet of Bounce.

Freshens the air in your home. Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang one in the closet.

Prevents thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce to eliminate the static cling on the thread before sewing.

Eliminates static cling from pantyhose. Rub a damp, used sheet of Bounce over the hose.

Prevents musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

Freshens the air in your car. Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

Cleans baked-on food from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in the pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agents apparently weaken the bond between the food and the pan while the fabric softening agents soften the baked-on food.

Eliminates odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

Collects cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

Eliminates static electricity from venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resetting.

Deodorizes shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight so they'll smell great in the morning.

Cleaning Marble "MARBLE IS TRICKY, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK"

For heavier stains on marble, take three or four cakes of Ivory soap, cut them up and dissolve in hot water until you have a "slurry." Paint this on the marble and let it sit for five days or so. If the gunk starts to dry during that time, wet it down. At the end of the period, wash it all off.

To remove lighter stains, sprinkle salt on a fresh cut lemon. Rub very lightly over stain. Do not rub hard or you will ruin the polished surface. Wash off with soap and water.

More Handy Hints

Sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then  slide a knife

under the flap.  The envelope can then be resealed.

Use  Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat

and you can write on the roll to what  appliance it belongs.

For  icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn

dish-washing liquid in it. Pour it all over  the steps. They won't

refreeze.

Crayon  marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in

baking soda. Comes off with little effort  (elbow grease that is)!

Permanent  marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE)!

Whenever  I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of

scissors and cut each pad into halves.  After years of having to throw

away  rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would

be much more economical. And now a box of  S.O.S pads last me

indefinitely!   In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get sharpened

this way!

Blood  stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen

peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off  every drop of blood. Works

every  time! Now, where to put the body?

Use  vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for

inside windows. This way you can tell which  side has the streaks.

Straight  vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash

windows on a sunny day. They will dry too  quickly and will probably

streak.

Spray  a bit of perfume on the lightbulb in any room to create a lovely

light scent in each room when the light is  turned on.

Place  fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will

smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You  can also do this with towels

and  linen.

Candles  will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3

hours prior to burning.

To  clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the

flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will  absorb all the dust and dirt

Silas' first hike with daddy and mommy was on the 'Fourth of July trail' on the 4th of July! This was one of daddy's goals for the summer. We didn't complete the 26 mile hike, but at least got to a view point. :) We'll have to take Silas here again since he seemed to sleep this time around! As did Niyah since she stayed home and napped with Grandma Candy. It was our first hike since last summer (in Hawaii!). We've also had some afternoon walk along Blackbird Island along the Icicle River. Niyah loves to throw rocks into the water and splash with her feet. It's too cold to swim in right now, but we look forward to the days ahead when we can enjoy a cool-off from the heat of the summer sun. We're enjoying the beautiful surroundings of our home in Leavenworth this summer.

Niyah has been doing great in her new bed. We finished setting up the bottom bunk for her and so far she is loving her new place to sleep! We have had a couple nights of some funny late night check-ins on her before Carey and I go to bed. So far it's been as follows; 1 night=head off the end of the mattress, 2 nights=pj's off and curled up on end of bed with no covers.
She turns two next week, so it has been fun to talk to her about how big she is and that means she gets a "Big Girl Bed"! And we also have used the "big girl/big sister" phrase to help remove her pacifier habit at nighttime and nap. No more paci for Niyah because, after all, she really is a big girl now. :)

Today marks a special day for our dear Niyah Joy. She has graduated to a 'Big Girl Bed'! Silas is outgrowing his basinet so it's time to turn the crib over to him. Her and Silas will be sharing a room for the next few months.We chose to skip the whole toddler bed phase and jump right into a twin bunk-bed (right now it's just the mattress)! She is down for her first nap on it now and seems to be sleeping soundly. That is after one motherly reminder to get back into bed and not get out until mommy comes in to get her. Memorial Day brought a guys work day and flower shopping to mind for another year. We went over the mountains to my Aunt Cindi's home for Silas' baby shower on Saturday. Silas is now a week and 3 days old. He had gained a pound in 5 days at his 1 week check-up! I told Carey, "I think we have a Big Boy in the making". It will be exciting to see this boy grow-up, and quite possibly pass his mommy and daddy up in height like his uncles Josh and Ty.
He is doing awesome; I would say he is a very good baby. Still a tired momma, but very thankful he is such a good boy overall. Eating and sleeping is the name of his game the past few days. Of which has been very helpful as we re-unite with big sister who had been at nani and popii's house for the past week. She sure loves her baby brother, but is missing the full attention of mommy and daddy she once had. However, she is a sweetheart and is doing as well as could be expected with such a change. Lots of kisses and load exclamations of "Baby! Si Si" whenever she she's him.
Now back to the shower...
The 'grand-aunties' did an amazing job making the day very special. There was a wonderful lunch spread and a delicious dessert table for all to enjoy. The decorations were adorable inside and out including rubber duckies floating in the garden fountain. I felt very loved as a 2nd time mommy to my first baby boy! We were blessed with some wonderful gifts including the GiNoRmOuS brown teddy bear for Silas. I mean, it is BIG! I can see some fun times coming up with Niyah, Silas, and The Bear. Great for wrestling and hunting with daddy, I am sure.
Well, I will catch up more about the happenings of our family (of 4!) soon. But for now Silas is sleeping and so shall I while I can. :)

May 5, 2011 is here and my little guy is still snug as a bug in a rug. It has been a rather interesting day thinking about making 'history' today since I am sure I will write in his baby book what I did on his Due-Date. So far we've had a picnic lunch at Enchantment park with Sarah Rose and her boys, including 2 week old Finn! Very fun.
Now I am home in a quiet house while Niyah takes a nap before heading to town for our weekly doctor appointment to check on our boy. Then, plans are in the making for a dinner out at the Apple Blossom food fair! Yummy! Nothing like a quality meal and dessert from the food fair to get this boy moving. :) Not to mention my nightly foot rubs from now on from my husband pinpointing the pressure points to apparently start contractions (thanks to my pedicurist yesterday!) We'll see how that goes.
All in all there is such reassurance knowing that before the foundations of the earth the LORD has appointed the perfect date and time our lil' man will arrive. I am very thankful for His presence with us as we wait.

Big Sister is Ready 5.2.11

Niyah is ready to meet her little brother. She often pats my belly and says "baby! Out! Up! Shhhh." Which translates, "Baby brother is coming out soon and I will pick him up and we need to be quiet when he sleeps!"
I think she will be a great little second-mother for him. Here are a couple reasons why I think so...
She has a sweet care for her dollies. She feeds them, takes them for walks, changes their "uckies" and gives them baths. She also loves to let me know when she sees other babies in town as we are out and about pointing at them and proclaiming "Baby!" (even when they are older than she is :). We have the car seat for brother in the car next to hers and each time we get into the car she points at it and exclaims with a grin, "Baby! Niyah!" = "Baby is next to niyah!"
Now as far as how I am doing at 39 weeks and 5 days; well, I am actually very surprised he is not here. However, as I look back over the past few weeks I am thankful he has not yet arrived. There has been a lot of other events in our schedule as well as emotionally demanding circumstances that have caused me to realize that I would not have been ready to fully engage in labor or welcome this little one quite yet. The Lord is so gracious to know just what is best for this little life and the life of his parents. And He means it best to keep our little guy inside my womb for now. So I will continue to wait in patience and thankfulness to the Lord for His perfect timing for the birth of our little man.

Easter Sunday 2011 4.24.11

We had a wonderful time celebrating the resurrection of Christ with our GCC church family while listening to an encouraging sermon by Pastor Adam James (listen here) and witnessing two baptisms! It was a great church gathering! I am especially thankful that I am apart of the church family whom we can enthusiastically rejoice in the risen Christ every day of the week! For He has risen indeed.
In the afternoon we met my grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and parents for a lovely meal at Swift Water Winery in Roslyn. The meal was delicious and the architecture was magnificent. Niyah especially loved seeing her cousin "Z"- Zealand and playing with her new baloon. She talks about him everyday. We finished off the day back at home and watching 'The King's Speech' in our living room with a 'big screen projector'; our homemade movie theater experience. Great movie.
And so another Easter weekend has come and gone and I am honestly surprised our little boy has not been born yet! We are very thankful he is comfortable inside while growing strong, but he is also making his mother aware that he will be much bigger than his sister on the way out! :) We truly anticipate his arrival with thankfulness. And I look forward to introducing him to you soon!

Smallwood Harvest Easter Event 4.23.11

This afternoon we went to Smallwoods Harvest for their 8th annual "Easter Celebration". As we walked into the mass of people, food, kids, events, balloons, and ester eggs I looked at Carey and said, "...and only because we have kids are we coming to these things now!" :) We are 'one of them' now with a toddler who can start to find delight in the 'fun' of events around town.
However, I do have to say it was a pleasant outing for our little family of four. The sun was out, we enjoyed a picnic lunch while watching "Elbow the Clown", we visited the petting zoo, we got a picture with Mr. Bunny (she wasn't too sure about him), we found one green easter egg during the 'hunt' along side about a hundred other kids on mission to collect every egg in sight. Good thing she doesn't know the difference of having one egg or 20. :) She was completely content with her one little green plastic egg. That's my girl!
Now we continue to anticipate the true celebration day tomorrow as we gather as the church for Resurrection Sunday! I'll post Easter Sunday pictures soon! Happy Resurrection Day to you all. Praise God for the atoning sacrifice of Christ! My soul is forever grateful.

Grandpa Carey's 84th Birthday 4.10.11

What a joy to celebrate with Grandpa Carey last Sunday on his 84th birthday. He is a dear man in our lives. Niyah and I love many things about this man.
I love that my girl absolutely lights up when I say we are going to Nana and Papa's house.
I love how she exclaims "PaPa!" every time we pull into their driveway. I love how another another exclamation of "PaPa!" is heard for all to hear as we open the door to their house.
I love how he comes out of his office as swiftly as he can to greet her wiggling, awkwardly running body.
I love how he 'pops' his figure on the side of his mouth at Niyah and how she tries to copy him.
I love how is gets down on the floor with her and plays ball, horsies, and blocks.
I love how is takes her for rides on his office chair around the living room as he tells her to wave like a princess.
I love how he walks us out to out car each time we have to leave and waves goodbye until we pull out of the driveway.
I love how he has a love for sports and isn't 'too old' to get outside and play still! We had a great game of baseball on his birthday as seen in the pics above. :)
I love how is faithful to meet with the church body each Sunday morning for the last .... years!
I love how he has stayed committed to his wife in marriage for his life- for better, for worse; until death due them part.

Niyah has a special love for them, as do I. I am blessed to be his grand-daughter in-law and my girl is blessed to be his great grand-daughter. He's a special gift from God in our lives.

Last weekend we had Pastor Jeff Vanderstelt of SOMA come and teach on how to become fluent in the Gospel (filtering every aspect of every day through a gospel/biblical lens) and how to live on mission with the Gospel to call others to repentance and belief in Christ. I was challenged, changed, blessed, and inspired. God is so gracious to me, a sinner, and I look forward to see more areas of my life changed with the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the days/years ahead! I am so thankful I am not saved only upon my conversion, but also that I am being saved everyday, and I will be saved in the Final Day of Christ return. "In other words, in Christ we have been saved from the penalty of sin, we are being saved from it's affect on us, and we will be saved from it's eternal consequences because of God's power, no our own." Here are some key points from the weekend that I wrote down and would like to share with you:
* Every Christian is empowered to do gospel ministry. My job is to grow up in Christ so that the church can grow up in Christ.
*Have I learned how to take very thought and action submitted to Christ Jesus in result of the gospel? How has the gospel affected every aspect of my life? Or has it?
*We are not only saved from death by the gospel of Jesus Christ, but also we are saved for something. Namely to spread the good news by living on mission.
*No one will want to grow-up in gospel fluency unless you have to or need to. We must live on mission to be brought back to our need for Christ in all things.
*We live our life under the dominate story we believe. This story will inform our daily decisions. Is your dominate story the eternal story of the Bible?
* Until the gospel story is known in your heart the 'false' story will 'seem' bigger and influence your life more than the true story for all creation.
*I believe that I have been given a new identity in Christ because of the gospel. I am now a part of God's family of missionary servants sent to make disciples who make disciples.
*I am more broken and sinful than I ever dared believe, and at the same time more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope, because of Jesus.

35 weeks- Countdown Time! 3.31.11

Here my little man and I at 35 weeks! We are definitely in the final weeks now. So exciting! I have been reviewing my birthing books again to start getting my mind engaged on the road ahead. I am reading Scriptures to solidify my foundation and ease my spirit as the labor/birth is coming quickly. My dear husband is so wonderful as he is faithful to encourage me with the promises of God and the gospel in the anticipation of the 'suffering' that I will soon endure. I have admittedly been even more anxious about this birth than I was with my first. Probably because I know what is coming! Yet, I am so thankful to Christ who has endured much greater suffering than I will ever have to. I am blessed to know Christ has endured significantly deeper pain, and it is true; His grace will be sufficient for me.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christs sake, I delight in weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 9-10

The joy of the Lord is my strength, and I will boast in Him. I am so refreshed in the depths of the gospel which eases my fear and turns it to praise and joy for the greatness of Christ.

Well the snow is finally leaving us for 2010. Spring 2011 is officially here (so the calendar says), and we have been anxiously awaiting the weather to go along with this claim. Thankfully our snow is nearly gone in our yard and we are getting outside for walks more often again. Lovely.

I do love Spring. It is a time of year when new life is displayed throughout God's creation. I feel blessed to live in a place that displays such 'life' so well. The hills surrounding us are a rich green, flowers are beginning to sprout up, the sun is magnificently bright, and the smell is fresh and clean. It will only be a matter of weeks before the once 'dead' trees will spring forth with new 'life' of vibrant green leaves and colorful flower buds. What a beautiful display of the gospel.

Today I turn 28. After a week of being sick, I think all our family if finally on the mend. With more energy today, I have enjoyed the day with my little girl and little boy. I woke up to heavy snow falling outside on top of our already existing foot of snow. This was a first time in 28 years to wake up to snow on my birthday. My afternoon snack were these delicious homemade strawberry cupcakes, thanks to my work! No, I did not eat them all. But I sure could have if I wasn't trying to save up for a birthday treat tonight-- Candy's famous coconut cream pie!
So,
Today I am twenty eight.
Today I am a mother of two.
Today I am a wife of one.
Today I am thankful for my birth, most significantly because I was called to be born again.
Today I am thankful for the free gift given to me by the Father in His Son Jesus Christ.
Today I am truly blessed.

More Snow today and tomorrow and the next day... 2.21.11

Well... snow greeted us this morning. How ironic since I just stated yesterday in my post that the snow was on it's way out! I heard we are to expect another 3-5 inches over the next couple days. Oh my.
In the meantime, this weather is keeping Niyah and I inside for extra 'mommy-daughter' reading, snuggling, and coloring time. So that is definitely benificial. :) I have been trying to keep in mind that these are my last few months with 'just me and her' before brother comes along. She will always have another sibling around once he comes... so now's the time to treasure these last moments with her being my 'only child'. She is quite the little colorer now. She is soooo proud of herself when she makes a mark on her page and exclaims, "momma or daddy or Nana, or Ella etc" and points at the squiggle line on her page. She loves to draw portraits apparently. It is very cute.

As winter seems to continue here in the Leavenworth woods of Washington I have been learning more about myself. And let me say, it is not all that good. In fact, I am down right even more selfish and full of pride than I have ever known. Thankfully I have a husband who is very patient and willing to teach me and remind me of the gospel. God is gracious to change my heart of stone to a heart of flesh. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. "Ezekiel 36:26.

I have also been reading a book by Bruce Ware on the Trinity. I have been amazed at how little I have known about the Triune God. Specifically how they relate to each other, how they relate to me, and what difference this makes in my life. It is definitely a book I'd recommend for all Christians to read. I will post some quotes from the book over the next week for you to see some of what I am learning as well.

Family Chelan Trip 2.21.11

This is the second year we have been able to go to a lovely home on Lake Chelan in February. Last year we took some 8 month photos of Niyah, so this year we did the 19month photo shoot. The few days we were there were relaxing. Although I was taking care of a sick child and combating a cold myself. Niyah has been 'trying' to get over a 2 week cold.... still working at it in fact. It's been a rough season of sickness between the 3 McPherson households all living together under the same roof. The 'bug' passes from one person to the next; and round and round it goes. Really exciting. Oh Spring, we are ready for you so we can get some sweet, fresh air and not be cooped inside! :)
In most spots the snow is down to 2-3 inches in our yard. So things are looking up! I have taken down anything in our rooms that remind me of winter and put out spring things to help in the endeavor. Fresh pink flowers sit on our table to cheerfully greet us. Yes, yes I do have spring fever.

Vacation with the Mott's 2.11.11

We got to enjoy a night's stay in Chelan with our dear friends Chris and Angela Mott. It was Carey's first night 'off ' entering into a week long mid-winter break from the River Academy. So it was fun to go up to Chelan for a night with our friends! We shared an amazing steak dinner together (thanks to Mike's Meats), delicious birthday brownies (happy birthday to Chris!) and then topped it off with homemade french toast in the morning. The weather was perfect and the kids all enjoyed playing in the sand while throwing rocks into the water.
It is always a special time when friends get together with like-minded hearts on mission with the gospel of Christ, and able to thank the Lord for His goodness in our lives. Time together as 'the church' is oh so sweet. I definitely look forward to all the days of fellowship ahead as Christ's bride; the church.

Grandma Carey's 81st Birthday Tea 2.4.11

February 2nd was Grandma Carey's 81st birthday. She was sweet enough to plan her own "Tea Party" in celebration. I love that about her! :) She heard of this cute little tea house in Wenatchee and invited us to join her for a 'high-tea-celebration'. It was a special time with woman she loved and I enjoyed yet another day with this delightful woman. I love her so. Happy Birthday Grandma Carey (AKA- Nana).

We left for Portland on Friday afternoon. We returned on Saturday evening. Short trip, but very enjoyable and fun to reminisce on memories past and to visit with some of our dear friends. Carey was honored to be a groomsmen in his friend, Steven Marquardt's wedding. He married a lovely, sweet woman named Jesse. The ceremony was quaint and beautiful. The message given by their pastor spoke words of Biblical truth. I really enjoyed listening to the words he spoke as I was both challenged and blessed as a wife. It was a good reminder to pursue my spouse and forgive my spouse in remembrance of how Christ has pursued me and forgiven me even when I was undeserving and in opposition of the Holy One. Christ was persistent and pursued. Wow, thank you Lord.

We were thankful to see a few friends at the wedding and spend the brief time we had together. I only wish it could have been longer!
The last two pictures shown above give you a glimpse of the "day-after" look of Niyah who took a big fall on the cement right before we left for home on Saturday. Her nose caught most of them impact as you can tell. But her daddy was quick to catch her before it got any worse. I am sure there will be more of these 'looks' in the years ahead. Especially with brother coming soon! This should be exciting. :)

Here we are at 22 weeks...
Thankfully I am feeling really well overall. I do get tired randomly throughout the day on occation. However, I am feeling great comparative to some other momma's I know who are pregnant now too. I have been enjoying 'fatty' foods with this pregnancy more than the sweets. french fries are always a good addition to the meal. Satsuma oranges this Christmas were a definite favorite as well. I can usually go for a slice of chedder cheese several times throughout the day too.

Over the past week or two I think he has done some substantial growing. He is kicking harder and more often and I can feel him roll around as well. I already think he is making a statment that he's a boy since I don't remember Niyah doing this much 'wresting' around. I guess he is getting ready to come out and meet his wrestling partner- daddy. :) He is a special blessing.

Most of you probably know that I had a miscarriage with my previous pregnancy in July 2010. Our baby's due date was December 25th, 2010. So the past week brought both sorrow-filled and joy-filled tears as I remembered my baby, who the Lord choose to take so young, and yet rejoiced in the life now living within my womb again. Both gifts are a treasured blessing to our family. I am so thankful for the love and support of my husband who partners with me through all of life...in the sorrow and delight. I am a blessed wife.

The ending of 2010 gave a good reminder to me to trust wholly on the everlasting promises of God and lean on His unfailing love. It is so comforting to me to know in my mind and heart that He is good and He is in control. I truly have nothing to fear nor dread. Christ is sufficient.
Now as 2011 begins I have much to plan and set goals for. I get excited with anticipation of what 2011 will bring because I can look back and see the goodness of God in 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006....and on through history.

I eagerly anticipate this coming week as I take time to reflect on 2010 and renew goals for 2011. It's my prayer the Lord would be glorified as I enter this year with an even greater understanding of gospel-centered living, in community, on mission, with the good news of Jesus Christ.

May the Lord bless you as you reflect and renew goals for 2011 to live on mission in your community with the gospel.

Christmas 2010

We have been going non-stop 'Christmas-celebrations' since Dec 11th. The festivities started with the 'Cooke Christmas' (my mom's side of the family) at my aunt and uncle's in Edmonds. This family gathering is full of traditions including the 'wrap game' and 'dice game'. Grandma Kay (my mom's mom) was able to come up from Arizona so it was a special treat for us to see her and for her to see Niyah!

Christmas Eve found us at Candy and Greg's home (our upstairs). We had cousin Eric and Helen and their two boys over for a delicious dinner,thank you Sharon, of "spicy shrimp and coconut noodles. And to top it all off... peanut chocolate cake. Yum. A once-a-year treat for us all! The men worked outside chopping wood in the snow, and the ladies enjoyed visiting and preparing the food. We ended the night with gifts around the wood stove and watching "The Ultimate Gift."

Niyah enjoyed her Christmas morning this year with a bowl full of oats and whole milk. One of her favorite breakfasts. However, the rest of us enjoyed a filling Christmas meal prepared by my mother-in-law, Candy. Delicious. We then packed up and heading over the mountains to my grandma and grandpa's (GGma and GGpa to Niyah) house in Edmonds.

The day-after Christmas we were at my folks house in Snohomish. We had a nice time with my parents, my brother's family, and my sister. Wonderful food accompanied the day as well of coarse. It is fun to see Niyah and Zealand interact more and more as they get older.

Then we were back home on Monday just in time to unload our car and get changed for the two-day 'Carey Christmas'. This year we started at Greg and Candy's (my in-laws ) house and our upstairs since we live in the same house :). Tradition has it that we sit around the fireplace and sing Christmas carols while eating a coconut-covered-icecream-ball with a birthday candle in it. The last one to have the candle burn is the winner. And this year.... I can claim the winners title! :) I wish I had some pictures of this time together, but unfortunately I don't. In any case, it was a fun night, as always with the Carey's, and the next morning held more fun...
...The Carey Christmas continued with breakfast at Grandma and Grandpa Carey's (aka nana and papa) in Wenatchee. Grandma is quite the cook and hostess so everything was delectable. Homemade cinnamon rolls topped it all off. We then began the 3 hour extravaganza of "The Carey Homemades". Every year we each have one person we home-make a gift for. This year I had my sister-in-law Sharon (great name to draw!). I loved making something special for her. And come to find out; she had my name to make something for. It is a very fun tradition, but also a lot of work and 'mind-time' throughout the year to figure out what to make.
Both Carey and I love our gifts this year.
The night ends with dinner and then stockings. Full days, but oh so fun. And thankfully, Niyah was holding it together with all these days of extra activity!

Then last, but not least, we had our 'McPherson' Christmas here in Leavenworth. It was a fun day at the homestead with the family. The kids had a blast playing together (as usual) and the adults had a nice time sitting by the fire and visiting between meal-prep and kid-care times :).

And so that concludes our Christmas celebrations with family for 2010. Wow.
